What an “autumnus” time we have had during the month of November at The Firs Nursing Home in Taunton. The Firs Nursing Home – Golden Care
Autumn wreath making at The Firs Nursing Home in Taunton.
Our Activity Co-Ordinator Jo, took a trip to our local park and collected some leaves to make our autumn wreaths. The leaves were a gorgeous shade of yellows and browns. This made our activity feel very autumn and festive. Our residents enjoyed making the wreaths. We used paper plates by cutting out the middle and sticking on the leaves, then added some feathers and even adding a touch of orange glitter to finish them off. It was great fun! Within a group we took a trip down memory lane discussing our favourite season of the year. We spoke about autumn colours and what symbolises autumn, our residents enjoyed hanging them in their rooms and in our lounge.
Cookery class
We made some yummy fruit cake and a chocolate sponge cake, our residents enjoyed weighing out their own ingredients and mixing the recipe in their bowls, we enjoyed the cake during our 3pm tea round, yummy!
Autumn word puzzles
We have been having so much fun completing autumn word searches and crosswords together in a group discussing subjects relating to autumn and helping each other with the answers
Games club
We have been enjoying taking part in bingo, scrabble, snakes and ladders, dominoes and A-Z memory quiz games. Our residents enjoy our flexercise sessions. Its great fun, whether it’s an individual one to one session or group sessions. Our Resident Pam said “I enjoy taking part in quizzes”

Visit from Porsha Jo’s dog
Our residents love animals! Jo bought her dog Porsha in for a visit and wow what a surprise that was! Our residents faces lit up with joy, Porsha went around to every resident wagging her tail, everyone enjoyed cuddles and Theresa enjoyed taking Porsha for a walk around the building, some residents spoke about the time they had dogs and it was a lovely trip down memory lane.
Pamper sessions
As we are still sadly unable to have our hairdresser come to do our residents hair Jo and Liz between them are keeping our residents’ hair in tip top condition. They are giving our residents haircuts, wash and sets and blow dry’s. It’s the small things like having your hair done that can really make a difference on how you feel. Our residents have commented on how having their hair done makes them feel so much better. Our resident Theresa said “having my hair done makes me feel great”, Kathleen said “it always makes me feel so much better once ive had my hair done”
