Spring in March at The Firs Nursing and Care Home in Taunton

From the second week of March, at The Firs Nursing and Care Home in Taunton we opened our doors to our loved ones again. There were lots of smiles and a few tears of joy as our residents were reunited with their one nominated visitor. We are so pleased to see you all back at our home.

Spring flower picking

Ann enjoyed taking a trip out into our garden. We loved looking at all the beautiful flowers that have sprung up for spring. Beautiful shades of pink, yellow, blue and white, hyacinths, daffodils, heather and primroses. Ann picked a bunch of daffodils and enjoyed displaying them in a vase in the dining room. Ann says her favourite spring flowers are snowdrops.

Virtual tour around Buckingham Palace

A small group of residents enjoyed taking a virtual tour of Buckingham palace. It was a great experience and our residents enjoyed taking a trip back in time. They were reminiscing about the Royal family. They also spoke of visiting London, and seeing a solider at the gates.

Getting used to technology at The Firs Nursing and Care Home in Taunton

A few of our residents have been enjoying learning how to use an ipad. They have been playing games such as dominoes, word search and even candy crush

A pint of Guinness

Donalds daughter bought him a treat when she came to visit, donalds favourite – some Guinness. Donald wanted to share his can with des , together they sat and enjoyed a social drink, cheers everyone!

Domestic goddess!

Theresa has been enjoying folding and packing away some laundry. Towels and bed linen were neatly folded! It bought back some great memories for Theresa. She says she loves ironing and used to do a lot of ironing when she was home

Pets a therapy at The Firs Nursing and Care Home in Taunton

Loki our managers dog has been taking a trip around the home and greeting all our residents. Lots of smiles, strokes and cuddles enjoyed by all! It really is great therapy.

Prepping for Easter with Easter crafts

Our residents have been enjoying arts and crafts. Colouring in Easter egg designs in bright colours to hang on our light up blossom tree in our hall. A happy Easter sign to put up on our front door to great our visitors. Also a few residents chose to make some beautiful cards to send off to family members

Cookery class

A group of residents have been enjoying their weekly session of baking. We made some birthday cakes, biscuits and some cup cakes. All in a variety of flavours from toffee to mixed fruit and also coco powder, yummy!

Vera’s family surprised her with a lovely window visit. They held up a banner in the street saying happy birthday. Vera was overwhelmed, what a lovely surprise.

Covid-19 – 2nd vaccination

We are pleased to say that every single resident and nearly all our members of staff have had the 2nd vaccination. To receive both vaccinations has made us all feel a lot more safer during these strange times

Staff Updates

This month we welcome three new members of staff to our wonderful team
 
Marnie, Alicia and Maria are our new carers and seem to be settling in really well. Welcome!
 
Our two lovely carers Jen and Claire and our lovely nursing assistant Bex have been given a promotion to senior position. Also Jen and Bex have completed their manual handling trainers certificates. They are now our in house manual handling trainers to train all new staff and for update training to all our staff

Visiting update at The Firs Nursing and Care Home in Taunton

As of the 12th April 2 nominated visitors can visit their loved one this can either be singularly or together in the home, all visitors will have to complete LFT testing 30mins before their visit, temperature checked, covid 19 questionnaire and wear full PPE provided by the home.  Booking is for all visits is mandatory.

We are still booking visits for the booth and window visits too
