July and August have been very busy here at Llanyravon Court as this is when we hold our annual Summer Fete. We have spent weeks organising and planning for the big day and getting the residents involved as much as possible. This is always at the forefront of any activity we do, so we have all been busy making bunting, signs, flower arranging and also providing lots of entertainment which the residents always love. We made two types of pom poms with the residents! The first pom poms were made using wool where they used their hands to weave the wool, which took lots of concentration, hand-eye coordination and focused on developing fine motor skills. The residents really enjoyed this activity, and some remembered old memories where they used to make them themselves, which led on to a conversation about the different hobbies they used to enjoy by themselves and with their families. We also made paper tissue pom poms which were lots of fun as the residents picked the colours they thought would look nice in the garden for the fete – lots went for lovely bright summer colours! A lot of painting was also completed, helping to make signs for the outside of the home.

The fete itself was a huge success! We had an excellent attendance of families and friends. We had lots of stalls and games that included, bric-a-brac, a cake sale, homemade cards and jams, wax melts, a bottle stall and a sweet stall. Hook-a-duck and Sponge Splash were also a great hit. The residents particularly enjoyed Sponge Splash as we were able to throw sponges and soak the person behind the model, which everyone found hilarious!

We had our kitchen staff working very hard on the BBQ, and we served delicious cream teas, which went down a treat. As if all that wasn’t enough, we had some fabulous entertainment in the form of a clown named Mr Tricks who the children and residents could not stop laughing at. He also kindly made some fabulous balloon models for everyone!

A Tenor was also organised for the last hour, so the residents enjoyed some good old fashioned music and were able to sit back and calmly listen to some of their favourite artists. We want to thank everyone who attended and supported us, and we already cannot wait for next year!
