Crick Nursing home in Caldicot

This month brought both joy and sadness to Crick Nursing home in Caldicot, we had to say a final farewell to a lovely lady who we all very much admired and loved. Irene was a lady who brought positivity even during difficult times to all her friends here at Crick. We felt very honoured that her family gifted us flowers and memories to enable us to hold our own service for her, sharing stories and prayers for our beloved friend. Her “we just have to make the best of it” saying will long be remembered by all who cared for her and those who call her friend.

Birthdays at Crick Nursing home in Caldicot

We celebrated 2 amazing residents’ birthdays this month.  This brought much cheer in a time it was needed the most. Brenda and Betty both experienced a lock down birthday, but it certainly didn’t dampen their birthday moods.  There was plenty of laughter and smiles and cake to enjoy.

Vaccine Day at Crick Nursing home in Caldicot

Vaccine day that saw the home buzz with excitement!  All our residents and staff have now received their first dose in armour to protect against the invisible war we continue to fight in Covid. All residents were excited and have been well since receiving the vaccine.  We begin the count down to our second doses, in the words of our 105-year-old resident Joy “We are another step closer to be reunited with our families”.

Reflecting on 2020

All here at Crick have been reflecting on 2020 and our favourite part of the year.  Many things have been learnt from the past 12 months and will all take a new sense of appreciation in to 2021.

We celebrate valentine’s day this upcoming month.  Residents have been working hard to express what love means to each of us.  We have been competing in a Valentines memory therapy quiz.  The winner will win a prize for the most correct answers.  In the words of our resident Ros “ Love to me is when I think of my family”.  There is no better feeling.

Our poetry group had a different type of month, but our favourite chosen poem this month was.

First morning By John Agard

I was there on that first morning of creation when.

heaven and earth occupied one space, and no one had herd of the human race.

I was there on that first morning of creation when

a river rushed from the belly of an egg and a mountain rose from golden yolk.

I was there on that first morning of creation when

the waters parted like magic cloth and the birds shook feathers at the first joke.
