Message from the Manager

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Rebecca, and I am the manager at The Firs Nursing Home in Taunton. As a Registered General Nurse I have had a varied career, including working as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse before returning to hands on nursing, then moving into care home management. One of the things I love about nursing in a residential setting is that we have the opportunity to really get to know our residents and their families, enabling us to care for each individual just the way they would like.

When the time comes for an individual to move into residential care it can be a difficult adjustment for both them and their loved ones. At The Firs we understand how hard it can be and will work with you as you settle in and feel at home. We are a friendly team who all work together to make this a fun place to live and work whilst also ensuring we continue to learn, developing our service to be the best it can be.

As a manager you will often find me out in the home, chatting to our residents, visitors, and staff. I'm committed to understanding what we are doing well and what we need to improve. I welcome feedback – both the good and the not so good – what we don’t know we can’t celebrate or improve. If you’re in visiting pop in for a chat or I can be contacted via telephone or email if this is better for you.

Testimonials

"I need to thank the manager of the Firs for showing myself and my family around. When we visited we were unsure of the best place for Mum in her last few weeks, but when we met the manager, he took all our concerns and talked them through. The Firs is very homely and is under-going decoration but it only took us 10 minutes as a family to pick The Firs for Mum. She was there 2 weeks and I can't thank the staff enough. I know mum was happy there".

RC - Resident's Son

"The care staff are so lovely and kind. My Aunt is very happy, in fact, I have not seen her so happy in years. The Manager and his admin are always there to help with a smile on their faces".

Activities & Wellbeing

Engaging activities are at the core of what we do here at The Firs. Stimulating minds and bodies for the wellbeing, enjoyment and satisfaction of all residents.

For example we have teamed up with Taunton Chaplains. They are happy to attend and do regular communions and songs of praise. Kindly, they will also come and talk one to one with our residents. There is much more on offer. Our in-house activity team pride themselves on adapting to the wishes of the residents. Sometimes, this is one to one time or changing activities according to wishes and preference. Let us know your hobbies and interests.

We have a beautiful garden that residents are encouraged to use. It brings such joy to sit out and bask in the sunshine – it is a sun trap! Its lovely to sit out and have tea and biscuits with new friends or invite the family.

Here at The Firs we are offering safe visiting according to government guidance. With our added safety measures, we have put in place, we are proud to offer face to face visits for our residents.
